What the complaint alleges
Eighteen commercial indirect purchasers of shell eggs, including restaurants and bakeries, sued eleven egg producers, Urner Barry Publications, Inc., and Egg Clearinghouse, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging a conspiracy to inflate the price of commodity shell eggs from at least January 2022 through the present. The complaint alleges that defendants manipulated the Urner Barry benchmark price through coordinated bidding and reporting, used avian flu as a pretext to restrict supply, and otherwise colluded to fix prices, resulting in artificially high egg prices for indirect purchasers.
