What the complaint alleges

Thirty-six consumer plaintiffs sued Cal-Maine Foods, Rose Acre Farms, Versova Holdings, Hillandale Farms, Daybreak Foods, Opal Foods, Urner Barry Publications, and Egg Clearinghouse in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging that the defendants conspired to inflate the price of commodity shell eggs. The complaint claims that the egg producers exploited the Urner Barry pricing benchmark, timed bids to manipulate it, deliberately slowed flock recovery to sustain supply shortages, and used the avian flu as a pretext for higher prices, causing consumers to pay artificially inflated prices since 2022.
