What the complaint alleges

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia ('CHOP'), on behalf of itself and related entities listed in Exhibit A, filed a direct action short-form complaint in the MultiPlan health insurance provider multidistrict litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The complaint alleges that MultiPlan and numerous health insurers (including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealth, Elevance, Humana, Kaiser, and others) violated federal antitrust laws by conspiring to fix and artificially depress out-of-network reimbursement rates paid to healthcare providers. The plaintiffs incorporate by reference the factual allegations and claims of the Consolidated Master Direct Action Plaintiff Complaint, and further allege that the defendants' price-fixing scheme contaminated industry-wide benchmark databases, causing CHOP to be underpaid for out-of-network services.
